Going out in style

Posted in to celebrate on September 7, 2008 by esmerelda

Yesterday was my last day in London. And there happened to be a fibre festival going on. So I popped in on the off-chance and who did I see?

The Harlot herself

Alright, so I hardly popped in. I actually bought the tickets the day they went on sale, and kinda-sorta-maybe stalled my emigration plans to see Stephanie talk. And you know? It was totally worth it. Not only did I get to spend one of my last days in the UK with the ever-lovely, smart and wonderful Clare, but I knit in a public place with hundreds of other knitters…

Knitters, knitters...

...everywhere!

…petted a fantastical sheep…

Multicoloured Dream Fleece

..and lusted over glorious fibre.

Delightful torture

Quite the send-off, I think you’ll agree. Although I didn’t buy much (suitcase is too full as it is), I did pick up two skeins of undyed merino/silk cobweb weight from Bluefaced, which I’ll double to knit the Lacewing shawl from Anne Hanson, and Clare gifted me an incredible skein of Handmaiden Casbah sock yarn in the most perfect teal colourway I have ever seen (scroll through the bottom lot of colours until you get to Topaz – although the picture here doesn’t do it justice).

So, that’s it. Bye-bye London. It’s been a difficult, at times fraught relationship, but like all relationships that really matter, I learned and grew while I lived in you, walked your streets, absorbed all there was to absorb. Next stop: Perth.
